ActiveCampaign's Wavelength puts a proactive marketing agent inside small teams' accounts
Active Intelligence 3.0 drafts campaigns, catches broken automations, and reads external signals from each business's own data — without waiting to be prompted.
ActiveCampaign launched Active Intelligence: Wavelength on August 27, a release the company frames as Active Intelligence 3.0 and its first genuinely proactive marketing agent, drawing on more than 500 signals pulled from each business’s own account rather than industry averages. The pitch is that the AI drafts campaigns, flags broken automations, and reads external signals without being prompted, a category shift from the assistant-you-brief to the agent-that-notices.
Chai Atreya, Chief Product and Technology Officer at ActiveCampaign, describes the ambition tersely: the product “isn’t just spotting the right opportunity, it’s acting on it right away.”
The gap being addressed is real, and the company cites its own figure that 84% of marketers still run generic campaigns built on industry best practices instead of their own data. For a small team without dedicated marketing staff, that’s less a strategic failure than a capacity one. Nobody has time to segment. So everyone sends the same email.
ActiveCampaign reports a 75% higher engagement rate for accounts using Active Intelligence versus those that don’t, and click-through lifts of as much as 17% in early data. Both figures are vendor-reported, and as MartechEdge notes, they don’t establish that the AI itself caused the performance differences. Availability is also rolling out across account types.
The launch lands inside a broader repositioning across the martech stack. It arrives days after Optimizely’s role-based marketing coworkers, and against the backdrop of Adobe’s quiet acquisition this month of Rilo, a six-person Indian AI startup, on undisclosed terms. Salesforce, HubSpot, and Adobe are all under pressure to show that generative features translate into practical outcomes, not demo-day theater. It also fits McKinsey’s finding that AI revenue gains cluster in marketing and sales, which is where the incumbents have to win.
The interesting move here isn’t the model. It’s the shift in default posture: from software that waits, to software that acts on what it already sees.
