Algolia Wires Account-Specific Search Into Shopify B2B, No Custom Build Required

Native support for Shopify's wholesale channel pipes negotiated prices, approved catalogs, and quantity rules straight into search results — closing a reorder gap that has pushed buyers to call reps or walk away.

Algolia on October 13 announced native support for Shopify B2B, routing a wholesale buyer’s account entitlements, negotiated prices, and quantity rules directly into search results without a custom middleware build. The move stitches retrieval into Shopify’s wholesale channel at the discovery layer, which is where the reorder cycle has quietly been breaking for years.

The structural case is sitting in the numbers. Global B2B ecommerce is projected to reach $36 trillion in 2026, per trade.gov, and Shopify’s own report puts B2B GMV growth on its platform at 96% during 2025. That curve has outrun the tooling. Wholesale buyers logging into merchant storefronts have typically hit the same generic search index as retail shoppers, seeing products they can’t buy, prices they haven’t negotiated, and no indication of volume breaks until deep in checkout. The historical fix was a phone call to a rep. The modern fix is often the competitor’s site.

Three behaviors ship on day one: catalog filtering by assigned company, checkout-accurate pricing in the results surface, and quantity, increment, and discount rules exposed during discovery rather than at the cart.

“Complex B2B use cases have typically required lengthy custom builds. Working with Shopify, one of our top strategic enterprise partners, we can now bring the retrieval intelligence that thousands of Shopify customers rely on today to a much wider audience,” said Piyush Patel, Chief Ecosystem Officer at Algolia. Amanda Engelman, Director of Product, Collective & B2B at Shopify, framed the partnership as bringing “its speed, relevance and scale to Shopify B2B, helping merchants deliver that experience across even their most complex catalogs.”

The positioning is deliberate. Algolia describes itself as the retrieval layer behind nearly 2 trillion queries a year for more than 18,000 customers at millisecond latency and 99.999% reliability, and this launch is an extension of that stack rather than a separate B2B SKU. Existing merchants flip B2B indexing on through the Algolia for Shopify app; new ones configure in the Algolia AI Search & Discovery app dashboard.

The timing has a deadline attached. Bain & Company forecasts U.S. Black Friday through Cyber Monday weekend sales topping $85 billion with 8.75% year-over-year growth, giving merchants roughly six weeks to put account-aware discovery in front of its first peak-volume test.
